Disney World and Orlando

Last week we took the boys to Disney World and spent a few days in Orlando. All of our family vacations last year were to Utah, so we wanted to do something different this year. All the Disney parks are offering free admittance on your birthday this year so we went on Phil’s birthday. That meant we only had to pay for two of us since Nathan is still free (until he’s three in May).

We were there to open the park and left when it closed on Wednesday and had a great time! For the first two hours and last two hours we basically walked on the rides. However, it was more crowded than we expected but wasn’t too bad. The weather was perfect as well.

We were disappointed that the Buzz Lighyear ride was down. That has been Landen’s favorite ride at Disneyland and he missed not being able to go on it. This time his favorite ride was The Haunted Mansion. Nathan liked Small World and the Tea Cups. Actually, he seemed to love every ride he went on, expect Pirates of the Caribbean. He’s probably too young for that one.

Overall I think we’re still Disneyland people. We loved Disney World but nothing beats the original. They’re very similar, but we missed our churros, corn dogs and frozen lemonade.

On Thursday and Friday we spent the day at a Marriott Vacation Club resort (thanks to my cousin Eric who got us a great deal). There was so much to do there; we didn’t really even need to leave. We did go to Downtown Disney to do a little shopping (and more walking) but that was really the only time we left the resort.

The boys loved the pools, and taking boat rides across the little lake/pond.

Phil’s parents were able to come with us and the boys had such a good time having their grandparents there. Phil’s mom is from Florida and was able to see one of her childhood friends for the first time in 31 years on Thursday, which was fun for her.

Besides being really tired from being in a constant state of motion, we had a great time and can’t wait to go back…someday.
